Hublot’s watches are known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to preconceptions of what can be incorporated into a watch design. Lace, embroidery, suit fabrics and even fur have all featured in recent collections for its Big Bang Unico family and so it’s no surprise that the newest models feature fabrics too, this time from one
of Italy’s most revered tailors: it’s the turn of the Classic Fusion watches to be subjected to the attentions of Italy’s leading sartorialists, with Rubinacci fabrics incorporated into the watches for the fi rst time. The latest watches build on the enduring relationship between Hublot and Italian style icon Lapo Elkann, and see precious fabrics from the Rubinacci archives brought back to life on the dial and the straps of the 45mm watches.
“I chose these fabrics thinking about the costumes that we make for Lapo Elkann,†says Luca Rubinacci. “I began with the extravagant colours of a vivid tartan with a sporty tone, then a more traditional houndstooth – in the style of an Italian gentleman – that I wanted in black and white, the colours of his favourite team Juventus F.C. I didn’t think that it was possible to put wool on the straps and dial of a watch. But, Hublot managed it and the result is better than I could have hoped for. We have achieved a balanced watch, with a pattern effect that is neither too bold nor too light.â€
There are six different versions of the watches to choose from, with two in titanium, two in ceramic and two in Hublot’s proprietary King Gold.
